Apathy. noun. Lack of interest or concern, especially in matters of general importance or appeal.
When does observation become apathy? Just recently my church (Evangelical Free) announced that there would be an opportunity to sign a petition to help save marriage. It was a petition to add an amendment to the Constitution (
Colorado) on the November ballot that would define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Now I’m a pretty conservative right winger but I never signed this. Why? I’m not really sure. I haven’t made up my mind as to whether this is really a battle I want to be in.See in high school I was pretty much against anything that referenced homosexuality. I mean… ew? Well, as I got older my perceptions have since changed. It’s amazing how living in the real world does that. I have since worked with gay men and women and have realized that they are just like you and me. Let me clarify that I still disagree with the lifestyle just as I would an adulterer (and before you call me an ignorant sob let me remind you that tolerance can only exist if there is a disagreement with something. I disagree with homosexuality as a lifestyle and thus I tolerate it). I think that God has made this issue clear in his Word. But so what? He also tells us about other things he hates. Funny, I don’t hear a lot of legislation being passed about divorcees and liars and people with tattoos.What I’ve realized in the last couple of years is that I am just as much a sinner as Viki and Dwight and David. I deserve eternal separation from God as well. I’m sick of all the sanctimonious “Christians” out there who claim to speak for God. You know who they are. They’re the ones who are sending you those cutesy emails that tell you you don’t love God unless you forward this message on to ten friends.DON’T YOU PEOPLE REALIZE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING WHO DON”T KNOW JESUS???Yet you sit at your keyboard and monitor and forward them on to your buddy list. Yet you say that the troubled young man was possessed when he shot up his school all the while you hate your friend because he still owes you $500.
